PSTC 2008 Week of Learning Delivers Personalized Educational Experience

Northbrook, Ill., May 16, 2008 - With a vast array of educational options at their fingertips, some 500 tape professionals enhanced their pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) tape knowledge at the Pressure Sensitive Tape Council (PSTC) 2008 Week of Learning, May 5-9 in Baltimore, Md. The PSTC Week of Learning is the ONLY industry event focused on PSA tape, and attendees from 18 countries were at this year's event.

TECH 31 showcased 23 technical and business presentations on technical tape topics ranging from silicone release coatings to acrylic emulsion PSAs to heat activated PSAs. PSTC has built its reputation on technical excellence, and the 2008 event was the 31st time PSTC gathered the best of the best to further tape as a preferred method for fastening and bonding.

TECH 31 papers are published in the conference proceedings, available at http://www.pstc.org/publications/tech_seminar.php.

Other Week of Learning events included:

Two Tape University classes: the two-day 102 technical course for advanced personnel and the one-day course with basics for sales and marketing team members.

Release Coatings and Chemistries Workshop: more than 200 attendees took advantage of this special topic workshop learning opportunity.

Jacoby Wins 2008 Carl Dahlquist Award

Philip Jacoby, Ph.D., vice president of technology at Mayzo Corporation, is the 2008 Carl Dahlquist award winner for his paper, "Microporous Polypropylene Films for Tape and Label Applications."

The winning paper can be viewed at http://www.pstc.org/technical.

The PSTC award is given to one speaker at each technical seminar who is voted by judges to have demonstrated the very best in research relating to adhesive tape technology. The selection covers a range of criteria, concentrating on originality and scientific contribution, but also including presentation and quality of visuals.

The award is named after Carl A. Dahlquist, best known for his work to determine the modulus value of a material necessary for it to be deformable and tacky enough to be considered a pressure sensitive adhesive. Widely used today, this work is known as the Dahlquist criteria.
