Promoting harmonized global test methods for quality assurance is part of the mission of the Pressure Sensitive Tape Council. PSTC has been a leader in establishing stringent test methods since its formation in 1953.

PSTC Test Methods for Pressure Sensitive Adhesive Tapes provides standard procedures for use in the quality control area of tape testing in the laboratory and to measure tape performance characteristics. Each test method is developed, revised and edited by the PSTC Technical Committee in cooperation with relevant governmental agencies (see flowchart).

Test Methods is updated regularly and provides fully illustrated, step-by-step procedures for methods key to success in the tape industry. The 15th edition includes five methods harmonized with Europe:

  • International Standard for Peel Adhesion of Pressure Sensitive Tape
  • International Standard for Shear Adhesion of Pressure Sensitive Tape
  • International Breaking Strength and Elongation of Pressure Sensitive Tapes
  • International Thickness (Caliper) of Pressure Sensitive Tapes
  • International Width and Length of Pressure Sensitive Tapes
