Nitto contributes to the daily lives of individuals and the future of industry with our ability to generate innovative and unique solutions. We constantly transform and adapt tape products to meet new application needs. One such transformation, was vinyl tape for electrical insulation, a product that Nitto was making in the 1950's.

In 1961, Nitto saw an opportunity for surface protection of automotive parts, so R&D went to work and developed residue free adhesive that could be easily removed. This product was the first of a large line of SPV® products (surface protection vinyl) that is still used to this day.

In 1992 Nitto again saw opportunity for an application solution, and developed an adhesive that could be used in severe weather conditions - and thus RAPGARD®, the white surface protective film you see on new cars, was born.

Surface protection film required further changes again in 2001, when manufactures needed something that was optically clear and not too tacky for optical display products. Nitto designed a product with new value-adding functions such as clean, easy peeling and antistatic properties.
